It's easy to think of computer security as a kind of objective truth, like the air we breathe. But sometimes it doesn't matter if you're careful, because if your software is out of date, malware will still find a way in. So how do you know if the software that's running on your computer is up to date? If they keyfile generator that I'm about to showcase does its job properly then it'll be generating public keyfiles for every program on your system, which are unique and generated when needed so no one else can use them. To start, if you haven't already, download my keyfile generator. The version you are downloading is the Windows executable, but the source for this keyfile generator is available on GitHub First, let's make sure this is working by trying to generate a keyfile. If it seems that the software isn't working then please feel free to email me at [EMAIL ADDRESS]. If you're using Windows then you may need to access the command prompt in administrator mode. On MacOSX it should be simple to run in normal mode or with sudo . To generate a keyfile with this software it will prompt you for the program name and the operating system version number of your computer. The program will then generate a public keyfile for the program. For example if you're trying to generate a keyfile for Microsoft Office I would enter Microsoft Office 2008 R2 in the prompt window and press enter. Then it would prompt me to enter my computer's Operating System Version, I would enter 10.7.5 in the prompt window and press enter, this is version number of OS X Lion, which I'm running on my computer at the time of this writing, if you are running an other version or want to find out what version your computer is running then you should visit the Apple website and click on "support". After entering my computer's version number the software would generate a public keyfile for Microsoft Office 2008 R2. Now I can safely say that this keyfile generator is working because now I have a public keyfile that only works with Microsoft Office 2008 R2, which will not work with any other version of Microsoft Office or any other program. Let's take a look at our public keyfile by opening it in a text editor. The keyfile has to be in a text editor because a program would not be able to simply open a public keyfile without the proper program, which is the purpose of a public keyfile. In this text document there are two sections that are separated by a vertical bar or pipe, |. The first section has "Microsoft Office 2008 R2" as the name and 0 as the version number, this specifies what program it is for and what version. cfa1e77820
